Art Crime Program with the FBI and Los Angeles Art Theft Detail

Please join us on Wednesday, April 17th, for a presentation by Special Agent Elizabeth Rivas of the FBI Art Crime Team, Los Angeles and Detective Don Hrycyk of the LAPD. Art and cultural property crime—which includes theft, fraud, looting, and trafficking across state and international lines—is a looming criminal enterprise with estimated losses in the billions of dollars annually. To recover these precious pieces—and to bring these criminals to justice—the FBI has a dedicated Art Crime Team of 16 special agents, supported by DOJ trial attorneys for prosecutions. The Bureau also runs the National Stolen Art File, a computerized index of reported stolen art and cultural properties for the use of law enforcement agencies across the world. The Art Theft Detail was formed by the LAPD in 1983 in response to a rash of unsolved high-value art thefts, recovering over $120 million in property since 1993. It is the only law enforcement unit in the country dedicated to fighting art crimes full-time. Board meeting and socializing 4p to 5:30p, dinner 5:30p followed by program.
